Year 10 GCSE Religious Studies students visited Waltham Abbey Church on Friday 13 October. Pupils were given a tour of the church and then an in depth explanation as to the physical aspects of a church and how they support significant beliefs and practices.
Rev Peter demonstrated the Eucharist and The Last Supper; discussed beliefs about Heaven and Hell and how these have changed over time and the impact of the belief of salvation on Christians today.
Pupils were then invited to ask their own philosophical questions about the existence of suffering, Free Will and omnipotence of God, creationism vs The Big Bang and current issues about war and conflict. Rev Peter was impressed with the higher order questions that were asked and said that he thoroughly enjoyed the challenging questions about theology.
Pupils had a good insight into answering questions on the exam paper. Our next trip is to a mosque in February!
