Pupil Spotlight

This week we are shining the spotlight on Hazel, in Year 11, who is the schools Head Girl this year. Hazel sat down with us to talk about her time at Braeside and her dreams for the future.

When did you join Braeside School?

I joined in Year 7, September 2018, from Oakdale Junior School.

What made you apply for Head Girl?

I wanted to apply for Head Girl to represent Braeside and take on a new level of responsibility.

What responsibilities do you have as Head Girl?

During my time as Head Girl, I have performed speeches at Speech Day and Open Days, I have toured parents around the school whilst telling them about life at Braeside. I also help Mrs Moon and other teachers with various tasks.

What makes a good Head Girl?

I think what makes a good Head Girl is someone who is a good leader, but equally as good a listener. It is also important to have good communication and organisational skills, whilst showing respect to those around you.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about applying to be the next Head Girl?

The advice I would give is to just be thoughtful and respect those around you. Offer to help out around school and get involved in the school community.

What have you learnt from being Head Girl that you think will help you in the future?

From being Head Girl at Braeside, I have learnt the importance of confidence and maturity. Being Head Girl has really helped develop my confidence and I feel ready for my next stage in life at sixth form.

What are your plans once you leave Braeside?

After Braeside, I will hopefully be going to a sixth form college in London to study RS, psychology and criminology. Later in life, I would really like to do something in therapy. Helping people has always been important to me and although it may be challenging, seeing a person grow will be very rewarding.
